Admin Professionals Day / Week

This year Administrative Professional Day is celebrated/observed on Wednesday April 26th, 2017.

The last full week of April is Administrative Professionals Week, of which every Wednesday of that week is Administrative Professional Day recognizing the important contributions that administrative professionals make each year to our economy.

Celebration

Many business's and organizations celebrate this day with management and employees showing appreciation to the administrative workers in their organizations and some offer additional training opportunities for skills development. This day is not a national holiday but rather an observance that is recognized throughout most of the United States.

History

This day first came to be with Mary Barrett of the International Association of Administrative Professionals and Mr Woodbridge then president of Dictaphone Corporation addressing the national shortage of skilled office workers. Next US Secretary of Commerce, Charles Sawyer announced National Secretaries Week in June, 1952 with Wednesday of that week being National Secretaries Day. Today the week and date have been changed along with the name change of the observance to its current Administrative Professionals Day which is celebrated around the world in most countries.

The most common ways of recognizing your Administrative Professional(s) today are:

  • Cards, often with shopping gift certificates
  • Take them to lunch
